2004 Scion xB RS 1.0
(Pronounced SION)
Release Series 1.0
is a special edition Scion for 2004
The first HotLava was
#1166
the new one is #311

I found the first xB online on the Carmax web site. Carmax is pretty reputable so I had them transport it from Virginia to Houston. I picked it up on August 24th 2005, yes it is used but it is clean as hell. It is just missing some of the Release Series 1.0 options, like the orange cup holder lighting ( re-added by me) and orange under dash lighting. The color is called HOT LAVA, I lowered it and added fog lights and plan on installing some bad ass BASS. I am planning on using these bad ass amps from Lunar Amplifiers that a friend of mine owns and operates. I am running a L1500 on the bass end and a L450 on the high end. That little L1500 hits like you wouldn't believe, it is mono'd on the RockFord T112D2. The L450 sound incredible and get damn loud FAST.
So I finished this xB(the first one) totally like I wanted it, then I went window shopping on AutoTrader and found a BRAND NEW, well used but with only 311 miles on it, 2004 RS1, up in New York at a Toyota dealer, I called and negotiated, got them down some. It is a pre-owned certified with 100K mile warranty, so me and my wife flew up to New York picked up the car and drove it back 1687 miles in 26 hours, straight through, just stopping for gas, pee breaks and to eat twice, rest of the time we ate sandwiches and drank in the car, and napped in the back seat.

Interior Painting
Everything was disassembled degreased then sanded and primed before putting one drop of paint on. Here's the interior after painting. The pieces on the air bag were plastic welded, first you MUST disconnect the ground from the battery, you do not want to have this air bag pop in your face, once that is done, there are two TORX bolts on the back of the steering wheel, remove those then unplug the wiring CAREFULLY and you can then remove the bag. Once that is done you can remove the plastic parts by cutting the back tabs, I used a dremmel tool. I used hot glue to fasten them back on. That is a Sony head unit CDX-8810.
Parts painted are, outer ac vents, speedo pod, radio and ac control bezel, front speaker grills, ac/heat/temperature knobs, cubby hole door, steering wheel ends, door handles, door pulls, door locks, shifter boot bezel and ring, arm rest, parking brake access panel, seat skirts and handles
Here's everything painted

Above the parking brake handle you can see where I added another light, orange of course. It's so damn dark you can not see a damn thing, could be the LIMO tint.

I found some orange cathodes finally, well red but they glow orange, you can find them at Logisys Computer, the other brands of red cathodes glow pink. Since these are under the dash now you can see the floor clearly.
Here's the dash out. Not very difficult, about twelve screws and one bolt for the passenger airbag. Think the warranty is VOID???

If you look closely at the speedo you can see I painted the ring inside the clear plastic cover.

Dash Pod |
AC Vent's will come out and do come apart by twisting them apart. Be gentle, once apart the black ring pops off and there are two metal bands (bushings) that the black ring turns on. The black ring has a tab on it this goes towards the inside of the dash, see the photo below no tab!!! In order to put the ac vents back in, you have to remove the dash, its impossible to install them from the front, if you do you will scratch that nice paint job all to hell. For the seat skirts, there are three screws, one behind the handle, one at the back of the seat and one between the seat cushion and the edge, that's the pain the ass one, all are philips screws. I primed and sanded these skirts four or five times to fill in the texture, they look better smooth trust me, I had them painted silver textured and it looked like hell.

Door Panels
As you can see I painted the door handle, (all you have to do is remove the door panel and then slide the cable out, then remove the rubber bumper, the handle then comes out fairly easily), door pull, window control panel and door locks all HOT LAVA. Door Grills may get painted. Same thing done on driver door.
I also installed some E-Dead sound deadner through out the entire thing. I purchased 120 sq feet and still have most of one roll left, this makes a huge difference in the amount of road noise. Its incredible and does not add that much weight. I sprayed rubber under coat down first, it didn't make as big a difference as the E-Dead did. Both combined made it very quiet.

SUB ENCLOSURE
I used WinISD
to come up with the port size for my box, this program is free.
Here is the DB gain plot, 8.74dB GAIN at 46.85hz, tuning frequency does affect
the -3db point, if I tune the port to 35hz the -3dB point moves down to 28hz,
in the plot below the -3dBpoint is 35hz. You also do not want too small a
port or it will whistle.

And the SPL plot, which shows 95dB at 1 watt at 1 meter.

The BOX (complete and hits hardl)
This is a RockFord T1 12D2 on 3.26 cuft. with 5 in square port, 6 inch's long, its tuned to 45HZ, I am not done with fiber glassing. The inside of the tubes have been reinforced with fiberglass to keep them from flexing, the tubes can be found at home depot, normally they are used for concrete footings, they come in 6", 8" and 12" and are 4' long for about $10 to $15. Oh and no more spare tire, if I have a flat I have a cell phone!!! I used fiberglass to make the floor of the enclosure shaped to the floor of the Scion.
And the finished product covered in Carbon Fiber vinyl
